Greetings Friends and Family,
We wish you a Happy Easter season! Jordan and I are well into our third year in Scotland (now living in St Andrews) as he pushes towards finishing his PhD in theology. The sun has finally returned to these northern shores, and we are more than eager for Summer. Our days are filled with many good things, and we savour the slower pace of this town and season of life. I am incredibly thankful to be in a job that I enjoy, and Jordan's research is progressing well. Our time in Scotland has been a blessing, and we have learned much. We find ourselves dreaming and praying about the next step as this season draws to a close, and we are feeling eager to serve God wherever He leads, knowing our deepest joy will be found in serving Him.
While it has
been my primary role during this time to support Jordan’s study, I have felt
deep stirrings through reading and prayer (particularly reading Augustine's Homilies on the First Epistle of John) to step deeper into God’s calling on
His disciples to love and serve the world so that He can be known. God has provided me with an opportunity this Summer to serve in action, and I'm very excited.
I will be
joining a team in Budapest the week of June 15th to serve the Paulus ministry whose
mission is planting churches in Budapest. Roswell Community Church (a church I have rich
connections with back in the States) has been partnering with this ministry for
years, sending teams to help with English camps – a primary means of the church
reaching their surrounding community. Americans help to draw in participants for these camps by providing the opportunity for Hungarians to practice English with native speakers.
Our role will include teaching children’s
classes in the mornings and adult classes in the evenings. As much as we hope
to provide English skills, our main purpose is to show God's love to those who come.
I would be deeply encouraged to know that you are praying for me and the team of eight as we travel and minister in June. My hope is that we may put ourselves aside so as to fully step into God's work. What joy it would be to participate in God becoming more known in the city of Budapest. God’s Word does not return
void; may we be faithful witnesses to the hope that He offers.
Our team is in need of financial support. If you would like to give to the team’s combined need of $18,000, please send a check payable to “Roswell Community Church” with “Budapest June 2014” in the memo; please do not write any names on the check. All donations are tax deductable. Your support is most appreciated. Send checks to: Roswell Community Church , 3380 Trickum Road , Building 1100 , Woodstock, GA 30188 (USA)
